..............................Dr. Appointment
Its been a couple of weeks since I posted anything. Nothing was really going on so I was enjoying my time. I got some scrapbook pages done and that just makes me feel so relaxed.
Anyway, Thursday Zachary had a slight incident with his cast so we took him Friday to his ortho Dr. in Syracuse (Dr. Palamino-she is not the Dr that did his surgery that was done in Boston d/t Dr. P wanting us to seek extra medical attention) to get it straightened out. First I want to say if you ever have a ortho issue please consider seeing Dr. Palamino. She is truly an amazing Dr. and the time she takes with you is worth the wait. We have never been rushed or felt like our concerns where not tended to.
So we take Zachary on Friday and they had to reline his cast. Kinda good that this all happened (See things do happen for a reason) because once we had Zachary out of the cast we noticed drainage on the inside of the cast at one of his incision sites. Well he still has the steri strips on most of his sites, so Dr said we should take those off they have been on awhile now. Well she took the strip off 1 site and it was draining, very red, and puffy. Yep 1 of the sites was infected. I was like how or why did that happen? He is in the cast and getting anything in it. I guess what happened probably she said is when they relined his cast in Boston its not a sterile procedure and just touching the fabric that is in the inside and up against him 24 hrs a day it can happen. So with seeing that she left the rest of the steri strips on because she was worried they would be at higher risk of infection too so she put him on a really strong dose of Keflex. He is taking 1tsp, 4x a day. I have to be very careful around it because I am deathly allergic to Keflex. It put me in anaphlaxis shock about 8 years ago. Last night I took the top of his cast off to air him out and make sure he was cleaned up and lotioned and the site already looks 100% better. It was scabbed and no redness.
Marissa has softball tryouts this week, I hope she makes the team. I keep telling her its very competitive with so many girls and only so many spots, so just do your best. Thats all anyone can ask of her.
Other than that, nothing special going on. Everyone is still working on the benefit planning and just enjoying our time.

...............................It Feels Like Spring
Yepper, sure does feel like spring around here. Yesterday it was high 50's with full sunshine, and today its going to be in the mid 60's. I just love this weather and time of year. I know I won't get my hopes up as for it to stay around for long, but I will take it whenever I can. I have been on a roll this am and got all the windows washed in the bedroom & living room. Hopefully this afternoon I will get the kitchen ones done along with those curtains. (I am not going to come over and do anyone elses so don't even think about it. LOL)
Zachary has had a 2nd bath since last weeks appointment in Boston and they said we can take him out of the cast long enough for a bath. We did notice he has quite a rash on his body since they changed the cast around a little. I am wondering if its from the material they lined the cast with or from the bath. I didn't change anything in his bath but I guess it could be from not having a bath for 5 weeks and the skin is all dead and falling off and exposing new. We where told not to put any lotion on because it will mess up the material and make it gunky. He says he feels so much better after his bath.
Marissa got accepted into Blue Print through school. It's a program where a teacher nominates you and you go through this interview process and they notify you if you are in. This is going to take place every Monday night. She is really excited and can't wait for it to start. This program will give them the opportunity to learn leadership skills while having a positive impact on the future of our community. I think this will be a great thing.
Other than that nothing new and exciting at this homefront. Just been going to the gym and working on the benefit.

.....................1st Post Op Appt
Tuesday was Zachary's first post-op appointment. We left Auburn at 6am got to Boston by 1130 and got back on the road to come home all by 3pm. We where home around 930ish. Zachary was very excited to go, but once they told him the cast had to be on another month he wasn't a happy camper. Yepper I said 1 more month. They took the cast off to do xrays, and then sent us right back to the cast room to get it back on again. They used the same cast just cleaned out all the packing stuff and relined it. Then they took straps and taped them to the back part of the cast and put it back on him. He was very hesitant to have the cast cut off, then wouldn't even look at his leg. Which actually looks really good besides being dry. He has aprx. 6 sites which the largest one is no longer than 2 inches. The others seem to be around 3/4-1 inch in length from what we can see. They are covered with steri-strips still. We are allowed to take Zach out of the cast long enough to give him a bath and thats it. I did attempt that task last night even though he fought me all the way. It did bother my back but man he hasn't bathed in 5 weeks I figured it would feel good to him. When it was all done and he was back in his cast he settled down and said it felt good, but he doesn't trust me to do it again. LOL
He is still going to school 1/2 days and nothing has changed at that end either. I still don't understand all of their thoughts, but just looking out for Zachary's sake. I just hate for my little guy to get held back because he is missing so much school due to half days, he has missed many days due to appointments, and his surgery itself, and he struggles as it is. (He is like his momma again!) I really don't think I am asking for a whole lot so I think eventually they will see that (after they get their heads out of their butts) and we can work together.

............................Benefit Planning and upcoming trip back to Boston
Just letting everyone know that some really great friends & family are planning a benefit for Zachary for April 26th from 1-5 at the Sennett Fire Dept. in Auburn. We are so grateful for having these wonderful people in out lives.
Tuesday we go back to Boston for a post op follow up for Zachary. We are going to try to do the trip in 1 day. Yes we are crazy but we figure with both Rob and I driving it shouldn't be a problem. We will keep you posted as to how that goes and hopefully will be coming back on that same day. Zachary seems to be doing ok in the pain area, just some spasms here and there. He still won't let me touch his left foot.
Marissa finished her basketball season with 3 wins. The last game was a rowdy one that was for sure. She seemed to really enjoy playing and said she would like to continue. The child is def. not afraid to try something new. I will post some pics of her soon from a recent game.
